On Sunday, April 7 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition is activating 3.1 miles of Peachtree Street for Atlanta Streets Alive - Central, connecting South Downtown to Midtown through the heart of the city. The street will be closed to cars and open for people to walk, roll, bike and play

The fun kicks off in Midtown, at the intersection of Peachtree Street and 16th Street at 1:30 pm where you can join in the official opening of the street followed by a parade of the route. The lineup begins at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm parade launch and street opening program. FREE bike decorations will be available while supplies last!

After the opening program and kickoff parade, visit Activity Partners and Route Hosts along the route for a wealth of interactive experiences hosted by community organizations, local businesses, and our sponsors. You can explore the Open Street from end to end or enter and exit the route at any cross-street at any time during the four-hour activation.

Atlanta Streets Alive is FREE and fun for all ages. Bring your friends and family, and share in the experience of enjoying our city streets as public space!

You’ve probably seen Yoyo Ferro's bright and colorful murals around town, but have you seen our 2019 Atlanta Streets Alive special edition t-shirts?

Visit an Atlanta Bicycle Coalition tent in either our Peachtree Center Activity Hub or our Midtown (10th St) Activity Hub on April 7 where a $35 donation gets you this exclusive tee + an Atlanta Bicycle Coalition membership -- we've got kids sizes too.

Shirts will be exclusively available at any of our three Atlanta Streets Alive activations.

the details

    1. It’s FREE and for EVERYONE. No matter your age, ability or the neighborhood you rep, even if you have no clue what exactly an Open Street is, we hope you get out and onto the street. We promise you'll like it!

    2. Hop on the route wherever is most convenient for you. There’s no BEGINNING or END and the flow of people is like a two-way street -- it goes both ways!

    3. The streets are open for you to EXPLORE your CITY without the intensity of car traffic -- stroll or roll to eat, shop, play, socialize or simply enjoy the outdoors. The possibilities are endless.

    4. OPT out of TRAFFIC! Getting to Atlanta Streets Alive is easy by MARTA, by bike or any human-powered mode of transportation. Consider challenging yourself to leave your car at home all day and, if you have to drive, then with friends/family is always best.

Atlanta Streets Alive is more than a day of fun. Through this advocacy initiative, we create an environment we hope will evolve into tangible, communal changes – including infrastructure changes. All streets in Atlanta should be safe for everyone to use.

In recent years, Peachtree Street has consistently attracted over 100,000 people who roll, walk, bike, skate (and, yes, now scoot) through Midtown, Downtown, and South Downtown during each Atlanta Streets Alive. All of this mobility and demand has demonstrated to City leaders that Peachtree Street is ready for its next act. Now, imagine if every who attended Atlanta Streets Alive showed up at City Hall and demanded safer complete streets!

We want to see changes. Political willpower can get things done. Sign up for our Advocacy Update to learn more.
